Gujarat Veterinary Council organized a one day technical seminar in Technical Collaboration with Department of Animal Husbandry, Gujarat State, Gandhinagar and ASCAD, on the occasion of celebration of world Veterinary Day on 30th April 2016 at Ahmedabad Management Association Hall, Ahmedabad.
The function was presided & inaugurated by Smt. Mona Khandhar, IAS, Hon’ble Secretary, Animal Husbandry, Cow breeding & Cooperation, Gujarat State. Dr.Vallabhbhai Kathiria (M.S.), Chairman, Gauseva and Gauchar Vikas Board, Gandhinagar was the chief guest. Dr.C.S.Chaudhary, IAS, District Development Officer Jamnagar and Dr.Hita Patel, Director of Animal Husbandry, Gujarat State were guest of honors of the event. Everyone acknowledged the role of veterinarian in future prospective for prevention & control of Zoonosis. They have shared their views on exploring potential of native breeds & organic clean milk production.
The theme of seminar for celebration of world Veterinary Day - 2016 was “Continuing Education with a One Health Focus” suggested by Veterinary Council of India in line of the World organization of animal Health (OIE).
First Topic was”Future trends in Veterinary Public Health” presented by Dr.P.U.Desai, (Rtd.) Joint Director of Animal Husbandry He stressed the need of future surveillance and monitoring, associated with economic aspect of disease control. The Problem of emerging and re-emerging diseases, food security, effect of climate change etc. and its solution were discussed.
Second topic “Emerging Zoonosis & Public Health Problems” addressed by Dr.Kamlesh Upadhyay, Professor& HOD of Medicine, B.J.Medical College, Ahmedabad He especially dealt with present problem with preventive measures of Zika Virus, Congo Virus, EBOLA Virus, Dengue, Malaria and CCHF in Gujarat and at national level. He also narrated some epidemics in Gujarat and steps taken by Health Department.
Third Topic ”Wild Life Ecology & Education” addressed by Shri Bharat Pathak, IFS, (Rtd.) Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Gujarat Ecological Education and Research (GEER) Foundation, Gandhinagar & Director, VIKSHAT, Ahmedabad
He listed about present system of ecology, increasing wild life population with wild life health related problems, Zoonotic importance and role of veterinary Science and its applications for wild life conservation.
More than 500 veterinarians from Government sector, Veterinary colleges, NDDB, Dairy cooperatives and pharmaceuticals with private practitioners, Students and retired Officers participated in the celebrations of World Veterinary Day seminar & offered opportunities for contribution to One Health focus.
